Chandrika Thomas London is an independent British luxury fragrance house founded in 2014 by Founder and Creative Director Chandrika Hillman. Drawing on more than two decades of experience in couture and design, Chandrika approaches fragrance with the same appreciation for detail, texture, composition and the way something beautifully created can make us feel.

At the heart of the house is a belief that fragrance should be deeply personal and that luxury should be experienced every day. A perfume can recall somewhere we have been, someone we have known, a particular ritual or simply a feeling that is difficult to express in words.
It is from these memories, places and emotions that many Chandrika Thomas London fragrances begin.
From Couture to Fragrance
Long before establishing Chandrika Thomas London Fragrance House, Chandrika spent over two successful decades immersed in couture and design, building and leading her own wedding dress business.
It was a world in which the smallest details mattered: the character of a fabric, the fall of a silhouette, the balance of proportion and texture, and the craftsmanship behind the finished piece. Just as importantly, each creation was deeply personal, designed with the individual bride in mind and shaped around her own character, style and vision.
That way of seeing has never left her.
Fragrance may be an entirely different medium, but there are parallels in the creative process. Both begin with an idea. Both are constructed through layers, contrasts and careful proportion, with each element working in harmony. And in both, even the smallest details can transform the character of the whole.
When Chandrika moved into fragrance, she brought that creative sensibility with her.
Rather than beginning with what is fashionable, the starting point is often much more personal: a memory, a place, an atmosphere or an emotion she wants to capture.
The Beginning of Chandrika Thomas London
Chandrika Thomas London Fragrance House launched in 2014, but the journey began four years earlier. During that time, Chandrika worked on the fragrances through countless trials and refinements, returning to the blends again and again until they captured what she had envisioned from the beginning.
From the beginning, the house launched with a collection of twelve perfumes, each with its own character and story, while sharing Chandrika's deeply personal approach to fragrance.
There is no single formula for what a Chandrika Thomas London fragrance should smell like. Across the collection are roses and woods, aromatic herbs, tea, citrus fruits, spices, florals and deeper, earthier notes.
What connects them is the craftsmanship behind each composition: the way Chandrika brings different notes together in harmony to create not just a fragrance, but a feeling.
Fragrance Begins with a Story
For Chandrika, creating a perfume does not begin with a list of ingredients.
It begins with an idea.
Sometimes that idea comes from a place. Sometimes it is connected to a memory or ritual. At other times, it can begin with an atmosphere, a texture or the desire to recreate a particular feeling through scent.
That initial idea becomes the creative brief.
Working closely with perfumers and fragrance houses, Chandrika then begins the process of translating something intangible into fragrance.
How should it feel when it first touches the skin? What should emerge after the opening has softened? Should it feel warm, fresh, enveloping, powdery, sensual or quietly intimate? How should the different elements move together? And, importantly, what should remain several hours later?
The answers are rarely found in the first version.
A fragrance is evaluated, adjusted and revisited until the composition begins to express the original idea.
Translating an Idea into Scent
The relationship between creative direction and perfumery is an important part of how the house works.
A perfumer has an extraordinary palette at their disposal, encompassing natural materials, aroma molecules and accords that can be used to construct a scent. The creative brief gives that technical palette a destination.
Chandrika's role is to communicate the world the fragrance is intended to inhabit and to evaluate how successfully each interpretation captures it.
This can mean considering the opening of the fragrance, its development on skin, its projection and longevity, the balance between different facets and the character that remains as it dries down.
It is a collaborative process: an idea gradually becoming something that can be worn.
Why the Dry-Down Matters for Chandrika
The first few minutes of a perfume can be captivating, but they tell only part of its story.
As the more volatile elements begin to fade, a fragrance changes. Different facets become more apparent and the composition settles closer to the skin. This later stage of a perfume's development is commonly known as the dry-down.
For Chandrika, it is particularly important.
A perfume should not only make a beautiful first impression. What remains later matters just as much.
This is why projection, longevity and the character of the dry-down are considered throughout the development of a fragrance. The aim is not simply for a perfume to endure, but for its evolution on the skin to remain beautiful.
It is one of the reasons fragrance is so fascinating: what you smell when you first apply a perfume is not necessarily what you will experience several hours later.
The Olfactory World of Chandrika Thomas London
Spend time with the Chandrika Thomas London collection and you begin to notice not only the variety of notes, but the way they move together.
Rose meets cardamom. Tea is layered with aromatic spice. Cocoa bean sits alongside juniper berry, while grapefruit, lavender and sage create something altogether fresher. Across the collection are florals, woods, herbs, fruits and spices, each playing a different role within the composition.
For Chandrika, it is not simply about bringing interesting notes together. It is about how they interact, how one gives way to another and how the fragrance develops as a whole. A note may soften another, bring warmth or freshness, add depth, or reveal a different character as the fragrance settles on the skin.
It is this movement and harmony between the notes that lies at the heart of Chandrika's approach to fragrance, allowing each composition to unfold and create its own feeling.
Fragrances with Their Own Stories
Rather than creating fragrances to fit neatly into one house style, each Chandrika Thomas London fragrance has its own identity.
Marrakesh, the house's bestselling fragrance, has become one of its most recognisable signatures. Rich, warm and full of character, it reflects the house's approach to fragrance: bringing different notes together in harmony, allowing them to move and develop on the skin rather than revealing everything at once. It is distinctive and memorable, yet deeply personal to the person who wears it.
Elsewhere, Assam Tea & Cardamom explores the relationship between tea and aromatic spice, while Persian Rose offers another expression of one of perfumery's most enduring floral materials.
Cocoa Bean & Juniper Berry brings together two ingredients that might not immediately seem like natural companions, while Grapefruit, Lavender & Sage moves into a fresher, more aromatic landscape.
Together, the fragrances reveal something important about the house: there does not have to be one definition of beauty in scent.
A fragrance can be floral or woody, fresh or enveloping, familiar or unexpected. What matters is that it has character.
What Independence Means to Us
Chandrika Thomas London remains an independent fragrance house, and for us, independence is closely connected to creative freedom.
It allows Chandrika to remain personally involved in every part of the house, from how a fragrance should smell, develop and feel on the skin to the packaging, presentation and the experience surrounding it. Every detail is considered as part of the world Chandrika wants to create.
That personal connection extends to our customers and the experience we create for them. Meeting the people who wear our fragrances, hearing which scents they have made their own and discovering the memories they associate with them have always been an important part of the house.
Beyond Fine Fragrance
Fine fragrance remains at the heart of Chandrika Thomas London, but the vision for the house extends beyond perfume.
As we evolve into a lifestyle house, home fragrance and body care are part of a much broader collection taking shape, with new categories that will bring the Chandrika Thomas London experience into more aspects of everyday life.
This evolution is not simply about creating more products. It is about finding more meaningful ways to serve our customers and bringing beauty, fragrance and everyday luxury into the moments, spaces and rituals that make up their lives.
The Next Chapter

Yet the principles behind the house remain the same: individuality, attention to detail and a desire to create something with meaning.
For Chandrika, there will always be another memory, material, place or feeling waiting to be translated into scent or a new experience.
As the house enters its next chapter, fragrance will remain at its heart, while the world around it continues to grow, creating new ways for our customers to experience Chandrika Thomas London and the everyday luxury we have always believed in.
